2000s Nicholas K Plaid Draped Botton Down Long Sleeve Shirt
Back in the early 2000s, I discovered this brand while I was on a shoot in NYC. I wandered into a little shop in the East Village and found a great vest that wasn’t my size.
Later, I looked into the designer to see if I could meet them and see their showroom. I met Christopher and got to shop the sample rack that (way back then) was in their apartment kitchen. My friend and I would try things on between the racks and gush over the designs.
This piece, came from one of those times. Made from a light weight cotton plaid shirting in slate blue, black, khaki and red with lightweight cotton jersey long sleeves that have thumbholes.
The front body is comprised of 2 parts. The top part is like a shawl with pleating at the back neck and buttons on the bottom edges that can be fastened to create a cowl draping effect or left hanging like a scarf. the bottom piece is basically the shirt bottom that buttons down the placket but is oversized also so it can hang and can be left open or buttoned with some drape to it.
An amazing top for layering or worn alone. The possibilities for styling it are almost endless which is why as a stylist, I saw this top as something really exceptional.
No size tag as this may be a one of a kind sample, Im not really sure.
But, similarities in this style have been part of their collections for years.
Measurements are very flexible due to the draping front
shoulders across back 16
bust 19
waist 18
In 2003, Nicholas and Christopher reconnected in New York City, enticed by the idea of launching a collection. Ultimately striving for unconscious sustainability, they endeavored to create products that mirrored their purist lifestyle while simultaneously embraced the energy of the city. Tailored for the urban nomad, they envisioned versatile, seasonless silhouettes, each collection seamlessly building upon the next. The antithesis of ever-ephemeral fast fashion, their progressive designs utilize sustainable textiles, employ ethical practices, and promote supply chain transparency advocating a deep connection to the earth.
Nicholas and Christopher have been members of the Council of Fashion Designers of America since 2009. Nicholas K is part of the CFDA + Lexus Eco Initiative, championing conscious living, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility.
